How important it is for us to know why we worship God and do His will! What we have learned from this message is that our whole Christian lives are to be a response to God BECAUSE OF HIS MERCY.
If we come to God for any other reason, if we respond to Him for any other purpose, we are degrading Him and what He has done for us. When we understand just how much He has done for us, not because we deserve it; not because He felt sorry for us; not because He was forced to but purely out of His great love, we will respond to Him by pouring out our love in ways that honour Him.
We cannot and will not love Him or people; we cannot forgive; we cannot be generous to people in need; we cannot worship Him unless we understand the greatness of His mercy to us.
Like the Apostle Paul, then, I urge you repent, to change the way you think until the mercy of God fills you with awe and wonder and moves you to respond in the way that honours and exalts Him for who He is and what He has done.
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, IN VIEW OF GOD’S MERCY, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing or your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1, 2.
